Sandy Lake at Little Bands Hockey Tournament
Congratulations to the Sandy Lake hockey teams who participated and competed in the Little Bands Hockey Tournament last week in Sioux Lookout.
Capturing the A-Side Championship in the bantam division was the Sandy Lake Jr. Riverhawks. The Jr. Riverhawks ranked 1st in their division with 4 wins and 0 losses. The Jr. Riverhawks beat the Webequie Young Warriors for the bantam championship with a final score of 4-2.
The Sandy Lake Knights, also in the bantam division, made it to the B-Side Championship but were defeated by K.I.

Stroke Prevention Program to provide options for healthy living
Beginning in March, the Sandy Lake Health Authority will be offering a new 7-week program to its community members.
The Stroke Prevention Project has been designed to include twice-weekly exercise fitness classes and weekly information sessions to increase the awareness on the risk factors of stroke.
The 7-week program will be delivered to five groups of 10 participants over the next year.

SLAAMB offering more career opportunities in trades industry
First Nation members are being invited to meet with several different trades employers to learn more about what is required to pursue a career in the trades industry.
The one-day information session is being hosted by SLAAMB (Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board) and NNEC (Northern Nishnawbe Education Council).
"Introduction to Trades" will include presentations by eight Trades Unions, Canadian Armed Forces, Hydro One Networks, Wasaya Air, Advantage Electric, Confederation College and several construction firms from the area.
Unusal February weather closes roads and offices
Mild temperatures and overnight rain forced the community to close the roads and offices this morning.
Sandy Lake residents have been advised not to take to the roads as the maintenance crews work to make the roads safe and driveable. The band office is expected to re-open by this afternoon, providing the road conditions improve.

Women's Broomball brings home Queen's Cup championship
Congratulations to the Sandy Lake Archers who claimed the championship title at the Queen's Cup Women's Broomball Tournament this past weekend in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug.
Competing in a pool of seven other teams from northern remote First Nation communities, the Archers made it to the finals winning all six of their regular games. With a solid defense and strong goalie the Sandy Lake Archers played their way to victory completely shutting out their competitors with no goals scored against them.
