Canoe Paddlers Stop in Sandy Lake On Way To Fort Severn
On Saturday evening, hunters from Sandy Lake First Nation spotted two men in a canoe paddling the waters of Ozaagaywaywahning, 25 km northwest of the community. The hunters, who had just shot a moose, stopped to say hello to the paddlers and to share a piece of fresh moose meat. By late Sunday morning the paddlers were docking their canoe along the shores of the Severn River in the community of Sandy Lake.
Muddy Water Music Festival Takes Center Stage
The Muddy Water Music Festival is well underway at the Treaty Site in Sandy Lake. Rez Metal, Lil Lucan, DJ Ken G, Blu and a Katy Perry Tribute Show were some of the musicians to perform on the second day of the festival today.
Garry Kehoe performed Johnny Cash favorites like Ring of Fire as well as the Hank Snow classic I'm Moving On. He was even joined onstage by June Carter for a rendition of Jackson. Crowd favorite Blu closed Thursday's lineup.

Sandy Lake Athletes Compete at North American Indigenous Games
Six athletes from Sandy Lake First Nation are representing Team Ontario at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Regina from July 20-27, 2014.
The athletes join 6,000 other participants from 26 regions across North American competing in 14 different sports.
