Chief Sugar Daddy holds Fruit Blitz at elementary school

Students at the elementary school got a visit from Chief Sugar Daddy last week.  He was there to share the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, and in particular how to recognize signs of a stroke.

Staff members from the Sandy Lake Health Authority helped out Chief Sugar Daddy by preparing fruit bowls for every student in grades K4 to 6.  They were also led in a two-minute workout by fitness instructor Jason Mawakeesic.

Denise Taylor, a physiotherapist from St. Joseph’s Hospital, has worked with Sandy Lake’s Stroke Prevention Program over the last year which has delivered fitness and healthy living components to promote stroke prevention awareness in the community.

Denise spoke to each class about what to do if they see someone experiencing stroke symptoms and what to do to prevent a stroke.
