Elementary School Celebrates Reopening

On Friday, September 6, Sandy Lake First Nation will celebrate the grand reopening of its Thomas Fiddler Memorial Elementary School.

The school was closed on February 21, 2012 when a fire caused extensive damage to the heating and electrical systems. The nearly 400 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 have since been schooled in other facilities. The students will be back in the classrooms on Monday, September 9.

Special visitors who will help commemorate the occasion include NAN Grand Chief Harvey Yesno, Deputy Grand Chief Les Louttit and The Honourable Greg Rickford. Comedian Don Burnstick and award-winning country band C-Weed will provide evening entertainment.
